Constl hits 1.6 Tbps on live Mumbai-Pune network with Ciena

Constl has completed a 1.6 Tbps optical channel transmission over its live national long-distance network. The trial ran across the Mumbai-Pune corridor using Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme technology. According to Ciena, Constl is the first in India to complete a 1.6 Tbps channel over an NLD network. The milestone follows their 1 Tbps transmission in 2025, a 60 percent jump in demonstrated capacity. The test ran on a live production network, not in a lab. Constl says the upgrade will support 800GE services and rising AI bandwidth demand at a lower cost per bit. Ankit Goel, chairman and founder of Space World Group, said the advance helps serve hyperscalers and data centres. Constl is a subsidiary of Space World Group. The company is scaling high-capacity optical connectivity across India. Ciena is a US-based networking equipment maker. WaveLogic 6 Extreme is its latest optical technology. Data centre and hyperscaler demand in India is growing fast. The trial ran on live production traffic rather than in a lab.
