India plans large business mission to US early next year: Goyal

India plans to bring a large multi-sectoral business delegation to the United States, possibly in the first quarter of next year, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in Chicago. He was speaking to the Indian-American community after attending the G20 Trade Ministers’ meeting in Milwaukee.
Goyal said a big business delegation had been planned for his current US visit but was dropped because of time constraints. “In fact, even this trip I had planned a large business delegation. But due to shortage of time, I was busy in G20 until Thursday,” he said.
The minister said the mission would follow up on the business component missed during this visit. He also signalled plans to increase India’s participation in US trade fairs and explore holding more such events in Chicago and other American cities.
The September 29-October 5 visit comes as India and the US continue talks on a bilateral trade agreement. Goyal has been meeting American industry leaders, investors and the startup community across manufacturing, technology and agribusiness.
The visit is the first high-level US-India trade engagement since Washington imposed a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods in August.
